Sega slighting Xbox 360 owners!
Tweeg:
:nope: In a blatantly stupid decision, earlier this week Sega cancelled the Xbox 360's physical copy release of Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus! And it gets worse!
The game, or rather the online-only portion of it will be available for download as a staggering 1.7 GB patch file on XBL Arcade for 1600 XBL Points (equivalent to U.S.A. $16). Yes you read correctly, it will be a patch file, meaning you must still have the original PSU (Phantasy Star Universe) game in order to play. And yes, the patch only contains the new online-only game content. You do not get the actual sequel to PSU! No new offline only story mode or offline content of any kind whatsoever! :yearight:
Bad move Sega, very very bad move! If you're going to cancel a game don't wait until less than a month before the scheduled release date dashing the hopes of eagerly awaiting fans! >:(

On a side note I am very angry about this as I pre-ordered this game in early September, which is when Gamestop began taking pre-orders for it. To top that off, this is the first game I have ever bothered to pre-order. So now I have a worthless pre-order receipt for a game (or rather a version of it) that's not going to see the light of day. And ironically, the PS2 and PC versions of the game are still on target for the November 20th release date with no announced changes of any sort to them. grrr
Joe_news:
dang, that sucks. I think Sega just didn't think it would sell any good.

I just lost another chunk for respect for Sega. How stupid can they be?

I wouldn't doubt SEGA was taking pressure from Microsoft to have it that way.. If anything releasing a separate disc would make get them more subscriptions. Microsoft just wants to keep making more money off their point system.

On a follow up to this.
A couple of months ago all versions of PSU officially went offline, except for the Xbox 360 version. Sega claims the Xbox 360 version will continue to be officially supported and receive new events and quests for at least another year. Contradictory though, persons who only have the PSU game by itself will not be able to continue playing online unless they purchase the Ambition of the Illuminous DLC (Download Content) Through Xbox Live. The reasoning cited by Sega for this oddity is that the expansion now contains a patch which completely rebalances the game, a patch which they were apparently unwilling to make available to persons merely had the standalone copy of PSU.
