Sonic 2 w/ 32x attached to the Genesis

Well i am playing my games tonight, and pulled out Sonic 2. I have the 32x attached to my Genesis, with all the proper cables, and works just fine.
Now, on the special stage for Sonic 2, (to get the chaos emeralds) the game turns black and white! I have never had this happen before (i just got the 32x a few weeks ago) and i guess this is the first time i have played Sonic 2 while it is attached.

So i remove the 32x, and play it straight with my Genesis, and the special stage is color as normal.

So, is this normal? Does anyone else have this? Could this happen in other games?

Yes, the 32X was nothing but trouble for SoA (Sega of America) and every consumer who ever bought the thing, myself included! The pass-thru functionality never worked properly! Do not play regular Genesis games through the 32X!

Well other than just color mis matching, does it really cause any other problems? I really kinda dont like to keep removing the 32x. Plus, i got those metal clips, and i put them in once, and they aint coming back out.

Are the clips only necessary for the model 1 or do they have to go in for the model 2 as well

They form an RF shield, for the 32X data link which is necessary regardles of which Genesis model it is used with.
